Seal the Deal

1. Register the vehicle at the Department (Bureau) of Motor Vehicles. You can find the nearest office from your location in the DMV website.

2. Transfer the car's Title on your name. A car's Title is an authorized document that tells who is the authorized owner of the car. Please note that you will have to pay a sales tax when you transfer the Title on your name (about 6% - 7%).

3. Get a License Plate for your car. You will have to get a new license plate whether you purchase a new / used car. For a little extra fee, you can get a customized license plate. You are legally required to always display the license plate of your car. Please note that, you will have to renew the license plate every year on your birthday.

4. E-Check document of the car (if applicable): You may need to provide proof of successful E-check up of the car. E-checking is to make sure that your car is not polluting above permissible levels. Please note that you wont be able to buy the car or get a license plate if your car is not E-check certified. E-check will cost you around $20 to $30.

5. Some states also require you to provide the proof of car insurance, so be sure that you have that ready as well.
